Essay Fiesta co-producer Alyson Lyon checked out Reading Under the Influence last night. RUI is another Chicago reading series. It takes place at Sheffield’s in Lakeview every first Wednesday of the month.
So how does RUI differentiate itself? With drinking!
One of the show’s signature elements is that readers must take a shot before taking the stage. Short original works as well as works from famous authors are read, and the audience is then prompted to answer trivia questions inspired by the famous works. Correct answers can win you prizes including a book. And if you’re one to show up at a reading, a book is probably a fine prize for you.
