Congratulations to 826CHI (Essay Fiesta’s charity of choice)! Keith Ecker and Alyson Lyon dressed it up and attended last night’sPeople Eating and Giving, 826’s annual fund raiser for their phenomenal tutoring and literacy programming held at the University Club in Chicago. What a night it was!
The night went without a hitch and 826 exceeded their monetary goal. This is fantastic news! The service they provide for Chicago’s young writers is invaluable: it supplements and enhances what they get at school. The support and enthusiasm for 826’s work was palpable; the room was filled with educators, parents and students. Highlights of the night included: a reading by Molly Ringwald (Yes! Of The Breakfast Club fame), storytelling by Luis Alberto Urrera and 826 student Rocky Sanchez, and music by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. It was something special, indeed!
If you want to give to 826 Chicago but weren’t at last night’s event, not to worry! Essay Fiesta provides an opportunity to donate to 826 (and win some great prizes in the process) each month at our monthly Book Cellar show. Next one is May 21! Holler!
