After you watch the solar eclipse and feel the need for an even more impressive astronomical phenomenon, come to The Book Cellar at 7pm on Monday, August 21st for this lineup of writers and performers whose brightness you can stare directly into without going blind:
Amy Sumpter has been doing stand-up for 10 years. She is a regular perform of The Kates, which you can see at the Book Cellar every second Friday of the month as well as the last Saturday of the month. She has also traveled all over the Midwest doing shows. She was lucky enough to travel to LA where she was a contestant on Last Comic Standing. When she isn’t slinging jokes she can be seen rapping in the all-female Beastie Boys tribute band She’s Crafty.
Jasmine Davila has read in venues small- and medium-sized for shows such as Tuesday Funk, 20×2 Chicago, Feminist Happy Hour, and Funny Ha Ha. You can find her at The Gallery Cabaret on the last Wednesday of every month co-hosting lady-centric live lit series Miss Spoken.
Jeremy Owens is the creator, producer, and host of You’re Being Ridiculous. He wants to be Megan Stielstra when he grows up.
Miden Wood is a writer and illustrator who has performed in The Neo-Futurist’s The Arrow Drops Anchor, Miss Spoken, The Kates and a whole bundle of variety spots and self-produced shows. More notably, she is Megan’s very good friend from college, which is why you all are listening to her speak at this nice reception. Please take a look at her comics on instagram @midenw.
Jill Howe is the founder of Story Sessions at City Winery in Chicago, a showcase featuring true stories and live music. Jill organizes and teaches writing retreats and has presented a Tedx Talk on vulnerability. As one of the resident (non-Jurassic) storytellers at The Field Museum, in spite of zero scientific training she captivates kids using colorful words to bring a 550-pound gorilla and extinct Tyrannosaurus Rex to life.
